Deseeya Balatharangam, an organization of children have decided to organize an event lasting one year in commemoration with the 60th year of martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi named Gandhi Smrithi from 30th January, 2008 to 30th January, 2009, throughout the state of Kerala, the inauguration to be held on 30th January,2008 at Trivandrum.
To pay tribute to the father of the nation on his 60th Year of Martyrdom, we hope it should be in a unique one and that is why it ahs been decided to hold this one year long program, which we believe is the best way to honor Gandhiji, the legend who lived for peace and non violence.

Story telling on the major events of
Gandhiji’s life, throughout the state of Kerala
As part of the commemorative year long program to pay homage to Gandhiji, it has been decided to organize a story telling session at 60 schools throughout the state of Kerala depicting various aspects of Gandhiji by eminent and true Gandhians.
Children have a lot to learn from the life of Gandhiji and therefore the stories of Gandhiji will definitely influence a lot in shaping up the behavior and attitudes of children.
The schools are to be selected at a later stage as well as the topics.

As part of the Gandhi “Smrithi”, year long programme, it has been decided to erect statues of Gandhiji in selected schools of Kerala, as well as to put up hoardings depicting the teachings of Gandhiji, which has got great relevance in these days.
The Growing children should get to know more about Gandhiji, and the value he had for his fellow citizens. Violence and fundamentalism, terrorism and drugs are the major problem of this modern age. Now we can see that man is after power and wealth and has forgotten the importance of morality and human value.
Gandhiji taught us the value of humanity years ago, and India is still following the path of Non violence and that is the reason why our country is looked after by many as a leader in various aspects.
This is why Deseeya Balatharangam have decided to erect statues of Gandhiji in selected schools all over the state and to put up hoardings depicting the teachings of Gandhiji, on permission from the concerned authorities, which we hope shall help a child to understand more about Gandhiji and thereby prompts him to follow the aspirations of our Father of the Nation.

This exhibition is to be conducted throughout the state and will last for 2 months to cover all schools and other educational institutions.
There will be 14 units to organize the exhibition based in each districts and each unit shall be equipped with the following

The unit shall plan the exhibition so as to cover the maximum schools per day. The exhibition shall be arranged in a high school of the particular area so that the middle school and primary school students can visit the exhibition.
The exhibition will be exclusively for photos and pictures of Gandhiji and with films and clippings taken on various occasions by media and others. For this Deseeya Balatharangam shall tie up with Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Gandhi Ashram, Khadi Board, and other like minded associations and organizations.
Conducting quiz competitions about
Gandhiji at all colleges and schools
in the state of Kerala.
A quiz competition for students based on Gandhiji is on the anvil to become part of the one year long project envisaged to pay homage to Gandhiji as a tribute to the Father of the Nation on the 60th year of martyrdom.
This program is to be implemented in association with leading TV channel, and hence the cost is not included, since the program shall be a sponsored one.
Painting competitions on various aspects of Gandhiji’s life at District level and State level. Making of Gandhi statues (Clay modeling competition)
This program is to be implemented as a pilot event for Viswasanthi Painting at Thiruvananthapuram. 5000 children shall participate in this and the cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 1.00 lakh at Rs. 10/-per participant towards cost of refreshment and another Rs. 10/- for other expenses.

Deseeya Balatharangam have decided to conduct a National Integration Camp at Aluva, Ernakulam Dt, Kerala during the first week of May, 2008 with the approval of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The camp is intended to provide the youth and children, an in-depth knowledge about the need of the national Integration.
The camp will consist of classes and seminars, debates, sight seeing, village tour, various cultural programmes, sports and games and will be attended by predominant, experienced and well known persons from various walks of life.
The participants are to selected from various sections of the society without any discrimination of caste, creed, sect, colour or otherwise and special emphasis will eb given to those from the weaker sections of the society and those from the backward sections and physically handicapped and due importance shall be given for women.
The camp shall be for a period of seven days and the participants shall be provided with Traveling expenses, accommodation and food.
This camp is to be conducted in association with Ministry Of Youth Affairs and sports for which the application has already been submitted with the concerned authorities.

9th August, 2008 At Trivandrum from Pettah to Shankumughom
October 2nd was declared as World Non violence Day by the United Nations recently has reiterated the importance of Gandhi’s teachings all over the World once again. It should be specially noted that while all other manifestos experimented till day failed, the importance of Gandhism- the peace movement is the only alternative.
With this aim of spreading Gandhism, it has been decided to conduct a painting event-Viswasanthi Painting in connection with our year long program to commemorate the 60th martyrdom of Gandhiji starting 30th of January, 2008. Delegates from peace movements from all over the world are to attend this function. This painting event shall provide a further thrust to India’s commitment to world peace. Painters from India and abroad shall participate in this event.
This event shall take place in The Guinness Records on various counts.
1. For the length of the canvass- 6 km
2. The number of painters which is participating
3. The first ever mass painting event for world peace.
4. The first ever event to be organized by a Children’s organization.
5. The first ever occasion to be attended by people from various fields such as art, literature, science, technology, education, politics, cinema, social and peace workers and organizations.
The painting event Viswsanthi Painting is scheduled for 9th august, 2008, at Trivandrum, as part of this year long program. August 9 was selected as the apt day for organizing this event since quit India Day falls on this day. And we the organizers are all set to celebrate this day as Quit violence Day, and we believe that this year long program is one of the best way to pay homage to our Father of the nation.
This programme is aimed to reiterate India’s stand for world peace, and to create awareness among the people of the whole world to fight against terrorism, the virus that is swallowing the world.
We, the organizers have arranged this novel programme because we hope that a new wave to be created by the children shall have great impact all over the world, and may be this will help those who are turning a deaf ear on peace.
This event dedicated for peace is part of the year long commemorative program to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhiji, who sacrificed his life for India and the world on the 60th year of martyrdom.

World Peace conference At Trivandrum-
to dedicate Viswasanthi painting for world peace
To dedicate the Viswasanthi painting to the peace lovers of the world a grand ceremony is planned for the 11th of august, 2008 at Trivandrum, which will be attended by prominent global figures that stands for world peace and it has been decided to invite all those organizations and associations working for peace along with national leaders and well known persons from various fields.
The painted canvass shall be handed over to a globally acquainted peace leader the function as a gesture of initiating the proceedings for a new and peaceful world, and where in the children along with the elders shall take the oath “Together we can stand for a peaceful world, save the mother earth for the citizens of tomorrow, and live in perfect harmony by loving each other and to provide all possible help and support to the poor and the needy.”
This function shall also pay homage to all those who sacrificed their life for world peace, and those who lost their lives all over the world by the act of terrorism, war, and other acts of fundamentalists.
This program shall be the foremost event of the year long commemorative program to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
Prior to this on 10th August, 2008 a Peace Song Evening is scheduled at Gandhi Park, Trivandrum where 60 peace songs and patriotic songs will be sung by 60 children.
Remembrance of Salt Agitation initiated by Gandhiji at Payyannoor on 12th August, 2008
A grand programme are arranged at Payyanoor in the Northern Kerala, where Gandhiji inaugurated Kerala session of the agitation against British for imposing duty on salt by making salt from sea water.
As a remembrance and tribute to Gandhiji, a massive event is therefore organized at Payyanoor on 12th August, 2008, as part of the year long commemorative programme to pay homage to Gandhiji.
13th August, 2008 programme scheduled at Vaikom
To pay tribute to Gandhiji for attending the Temple Agitation
Further on 13th August, 2008 a programme is scheduled at Vaikom, where Gandhiji took part in the temple satyagraha along with other prominent leaders of the period to make open the doors of temples to those belonging to the lower caste till then was open to the upper caste only.
As a tribute to Gandhiji a function is therefore arranged at Vaikom, to be attended by prominent persons and students of the area.

As part of the year long commemorative program to pay homage to Gandhiji on his 60th year of martyrdom, we have deiced to observe Gandhi Jayanthi Day-2nd October, 2008 as Quit Violence Day.
Children from various parts of state shall join together at Gandhi Park, Trivandrum to take oath -
“That they will never indulge in any activities that spark violence, secularism, and they will stay away from drugs, narcotics, tobacco and that they will extend their help and support to the needy and those belonging to the weaker sections of the society, and above all will follow the path of Gandhism”
- along with veteran freedom fighters and Gandhians and others from all walks of life.
After oath taking, they will sign patriotic songs along with leading singers and musicians.
